All About Slush Machine Cocktails

There are several ways you can make adult slushies. Mixers can be added to the slush cocktail machine. Then, you flip a switch and it’s ready for use. There is nothing wrong with this method, but sometimes, you want a frosty brain freezing booze bomb with more fresh flavor. Or maybe there isn’t a mixer that suits the occasion. I don’t know why you wouldn’t use margaritas. Here’s how to make an adult slushie that is cool and cold. It will be sweet but refreshing.
If you plan to serve slushies at an event or in a bar, it is important to think about the size of the drink. This will make it easier to track the cost. Let’s suppose you are serving a slushie of 10 ounces. It is likely that the cocktail contains at least 2 ounces. You will need to add quite some water to the mixture to allow it to freeze. Consider how much ice you place in a blender to make a frozen drink. To get a thick frozen consistency, you should fill your blender with ice. For an ice palace, you should add twice as much water to the booze.

So already we have 2oz booze + 4oz water= 6oz total liquid.

Now, it’s time for the modifiers. Lemon, lime, pineapple, coconut? Sugar, honey or crazy house-made syrup? You might already know the drink you wish to make. You won’t get the same taste when the drink is frozen as when it has been shaken or stirred. The drink will taste thinned and diluted. Mixers need to be boosted. Let us take, for example, the Daiquiri.

Others might prefer a non-slushie Daiquiri.

2oz rum
1oz lime
.5oz simple syrup.

However, if you want to make a Daiquiri colder than a witch’s teat, you will need to add some sugar. Adjusted, our Daiquiri might look as such:

2oz rum
1oz lime
1oz simple syrup.

Measurements for Testing

If you’re anything like me, you will want to try the drink before sharing your creation with the world. I have heard of people weighing ice and letting it melt before determining how much water it is. This is how I find out the contents of a frozen beverage.

Make a modified Daiquiri (2oz rum, 1oz lime, 1oz simple). You will need to put this cocktail in a shaker. Fill it with as much ice and shake it until the wheels fall off. Then strain it. What will you get? Let’s take 7 oz.

7oz total – 2oz rum – 1.5oz lime – 1oz simple syrup = 2.5 water (dilution)

Let’s add another 1.5oz water to make sure the drink has the right amount of water for freezing. We now have 8.5 ounces per cocktail. This is the serving size. It should taste a bit sweet but should be balanced once frozen. If it tastes too sweet or too sour, adjust as necessary.

Once we have established the basics of making slushies, we will need some extra ingredients to make it even more delicious.

My time spent abroad taught me how to appreciate the metric system. Simply remove the “oz” in our recipe and replace with “mL.” It’s that simple.

Routine of refilling

Serving slushies is all about how quickly you fill up the machine. A full machine can take at least an hour to freeze the liquid. This means that the colder the liquid is, the more you let it cool before adding more.

I recommend filling the machine with water when it is only half-full. My trick is to roll the machine or rack it once it’s full. This means you should pour in more of your batch. Next, take the container that was used to fill your machine, and fill it with the slushie. Do this three or four times. This will ensure that all liquids in the machine are at the same temperature. It will also result in a quicker freeze. If this happens, the new batch of liquid will sink to its bottom while the frozen portion will stay at the top.
