Test Importance
Our efforts to control and mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic are aided by testing. This allows us to identify infected people to prevent any further transmission.
What was the purpose of my COVID-19 test?
It is possible that you have been tested for:
Your healthcare provider suspects you may have symptoms or signs that could indicate COVID-19 (e.g. fever, cough, difficulty, breathing, etc.)
You are a resident of an area where COVID 19 transmission is high.
You were in close contact or have been confirmed to have COVID-19
Is there any risk to the Covid test?
When specimen collection via throat or nasal swab takes place, it is possible to experience discomfort or other complications
What are the benefits?
Your healthcare provider can use the results of your COVID-19 testing and other information to make informed decisions about your care.
The testing for COVID-19 can help to limit the spread of COVID-19 among your family members and other community members.
What does it signify if my test results are positive?
A positive test result is a sign that you may have COVID-19. It is possible that you will be asked for quarantine in order to prevent spreading the virus to others.
Although it is rare, false positive results can happen. Your healthcare provider will consult with you about how to best care for you, based on your symptoms and medical history.
What does it mean to have a negative result from a test?
Negative test results indicate that the virus responsible for COVID-19, SARSCoV-2, wasn’t detected in your specimen taken from your nose and throat.
A negative COVID-19 test result means that you are not experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms such as fatigue, cough, fever, or other symptoms. they are most likely caused by another type of illness such as the flu, common cold, or other respiratory conditions.
Although it is rare, it is possible for your negative result to be incorrect. Even though there was no virus in your specimen, this could mean that you may still have COVID-19. When deciding how to best care for you, your healthcare provider will take into account your test results and all aspects of your medical history.
